Murdo gained the Dux medal for academic excellence from Portree High School on the Isle of Skye. He then went on to complete a 1st Class Honours degree in Pure Maths at the University of Glasgow. Pursuing his passion for film he went on to do a second degree at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama (now the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland) where he completed a BA in Digital Film and Television.
