Gazelle - The Love Issue

With the sudden death of his partner Eric, Paulo must pass through a life transformation. Paulo is HIV+ but never got sick before and now he sees his own life is in danger for the first time. He embarks on a conscious transformation by filtering what matters in his life. The film brings us into Paulo’s search for a meaningful way to deepen Gazelle’s life. His emotional depths is transformed into artistic expressions that plays with the Past and Present through symbolic use of references. Besides the new lover Mark, he finds collaborators who pushes him forward in life bringing Gazelle’s work to his highest level.
Paulo is internationally famous in the underground scene for his alter-ego Gazelle. Appearing in clubs around the world in boldly conceived costumes, Gazelle became well known when he created the publication “GAZELLAND”, a documentation of the artists, photographers and designers of the gay nightlife community of London, New York and Sao Paulo. Gazelle is able to capture the astonishing creativity of this international underground scene. He upgraded the term "Club Kids" to "Freak Chics" when addressing them due to the fashion evolution of their ensembles.

Director: Cesar Terranova

First Film.
Director’s Statement
I want to create a true portrait of both Paulo and Gazelle, and of the scene they inhabit and create around the world—with all its fun, wit, brilliance, and energy. We will also see sometimes shallow values and small attitudes—dark sides of his world that Paulo usually just bulldozes right through.
This is my first feature-length film. I have completed a short about Gazelle, and this project grows out of that.

In long days

IN LONG DAYS is a short documentary about a family who decided to take the risk of living a different life. Rodrigo, Miriam and Pablo abandoned the city to pursue their autonomy and their freedom in the wilderness, allowing themselves to imagine a flexible and autonomous space, a space ready to adapt both to the ecosystem and their changing needs. Their story is a testimony about life and survival in an 'underdeveloped country', a brave stand against a a system grounded on the understanding of precariousness as the opportunity to transform the imposed conditions of the 'underdevelopment' discourse into something pleasantly unexpected.

Director: Adrián Villa Dávila

Adrián Villa has been working in the artists collective producciones invisibles for the last 7 years. With their work they search for metaphors with the potential of undermining certain uses and conceptions of space. They long for new forms of inhabiting and attempt to encounter them through the marginal thought operations found in art. Villa currently finished his Master studies in Media Arts at the Kunst Hochschule für Medien Köln.

Bookbiographies

The book My way of knowledge – Expedition into the Abyss of alienation (Heiko Volkmer, published by Materialverlag) critically looks into questions and phenomenons that unfold when dealing with the meaning of work in our society. In doing so, three poles correspond with each other: the subjective thoughts of the author who questions his decision to study at an art school, the fictional biography of a bookbinder who finds himself back in professional orientation and various works of the humanities, such as by Karl Marx, Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel or Siegfried Kracauer.

Director: Heiko Volkmer

Heiko Volkmer was born in 1984 in Hamburg. His first film appeared in 2005 during the studies of the ethnic studies. He broke off these studies after 3 terms, to be able to switch to the HfbK Hamburg (Art school) in 2006. There he is studying visual communication with the main focus on Film.
In his studies he developed a variety of short documentary- and experimental-films as an auteur. In 2009/2010 he spend two semesters studying at the art school (ENSBA) in Lyon/ France.
Heiko Volkmer successfully passed his diploma in 2014 with the feature documentary “Bookbiographies” and the book “My way of knowledge – Expedition into the Abyss of alienation”.
Amongst other things he worked at the NDR (public TV-station) in Hamburg. Until today Heiko Volkmer works at "El Rojito e.V.", an association in Hamburg for fair-trade-products from Latin America. Since finishing his studies he works as a freelance filmmaker (splitterfilm) and at the ARD (public TV-station) in Hamburg.
